TheIndonesia.id - The Jakarta provincial government has sterilized and vaccinated hundreds of cats within its area to gradually reduce their population and ensure the felines are in healthy condition.
The food security, maritime, and agriculture office (DKPKP) in Jakarta said it provided rabies vaccine and sterilization for at least 250 cats in Jakarta.
“We provide free sterilization for 250 cats and rabies vaccine for 500 cats,” head of DKPKP Jakarta Suharini Eliawati said on Monday, June 20, as reported by Antara.
She also added that the first stage of the program would be held in Tanjung Duren area in West Jakarta.
DKPKP initiated the program after receiving many requests from the public to provide free sterilization and vaccination for cats in Jakarta, and it also collaborated with cat lovers community Pecinta Kucing Tangerang to accommodate cats that will be sterilized and administered with vaccine.
The main objectives of this program are to keep these cats healthy and to gradually reduce their population, but Eliawati said her office also aimed to achieve the sterilization and vaccination targets that have been set out.
“This year’s target for sterilization is 10,000 and 35,000 for rabies vaccination,” she explained, adding that if the targets are met, Jakarta will most likely stay rabies-free.
