TheIndonesia.id - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs has assured that the handling of Khilafatul Muslimin will adhere to the protection of human rights even if the organization is considered a threat to national ideology.

Chief security minister Mahfud MD said the main objective behind the establishment of Khilafatul Muslimin was to spread caliphate and is deemed against Pancasila as state ideology. However, in handling the case and all individuals that have been detained, Mahfud said human rights principles should always be in place.

“We will ‘crush’ Khilafatul Muslimin if they threatens ideology, but we also pay attention to human rights because it’s also the state’s responsibility to protect human rights,” he said on Monday, June 20, as reported by Antara.

On the occasion, the coordinating minister also revealed his visit to the headquarters of United Nations Human Rights Council and High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 16.

“I’ve just reported to President [Joko Widodo] that there are 41 countries that are monitored, but Indonesia isn’t one of them – in the last three years,” Mahfud confirmed.

The police has arrested at least six Khilafatul Muslimin leading figures in different regions across Indonesia, including leader Abdul Qadir Hasan Baraja who was arrested in Lampung on June 7.

In addition, police has also uncovered dozens of schools and two universities affiliated with the group.
