TheIndonesia.id - Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo is planned to attend the Formula E race that will take place in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Saturday, June 4.
The plan was revealed by chief of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono who confirmed that the state leader will be present to watch the world championship.
“Insya Allah, Mr. President has been planned to watch the Formula E race tomorrow,” Hartono said in a statement on Friday, June 3, as reported by Antara.
Before the race starts, President Jokowi will do the grid walk with speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and chairperson of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan, chairperson of Jakarta Formula E organizing committee of Ahmad Sahroni, Formula E’s co-founder Alberto Longo, and five drivers.
“The President will meet and take photos with the drivers,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said he expected the Jakarta Formula E to be as successful as the Mandalika MotoGP race in West Nusa Tenggara.
“We’re supporting the event that hopefully can positively affect tourism and creative economy in Jakarta,” Uno said.
He said the Ministry is currently estimating the direct impact of the international sporting event to the two sectors after more than 14,000 tickets were sold to international tourists.
Lastly, Uno assured that the central government will support every event that can contribute to economic revival and recovery, especially through sport tourism.
