TheIndonesia.id - A fire broke out in a densely populated area in Medan, North Sumatra, in the early hours of Sunday and destroyed 41 homes while more than 100 people were forced to evacuate.

Medan Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD) confirmed the accident took place in Jalan Wahidin, Pandau Hulu, Medan Area subdistrict on Sunday, May 1, and burned dozens of homes in the area.

“There are 41 homes burned down,” manager of the office’s disaster management operations control center Ronald F. Sihotang said, as reported by Antara.

Due to the area being densely populated, he added, the fire spread more rapidly and destroyed the dozens of houses quickly.

The source of fire is still unknown, and investigation is currently underway by the police.

Sihotang also confirmed that no fatality has been reported, but more than 100 people were forced to evacuate.

Medan BPBD has also erected tent as shelter for people impacted by the fire as well as establishing public kitchen.
