TheIndonesia.id - The Ministry of Transportation has confirmed that Bogor-Sukabumi train will start operation this weekend, and it will serve both cargo and passenger to support economic activities in and between the two cities.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said passengers can enjoy the service by the end of this week, and the train is also aimed to support Indonesians who are returning to their hometown during Ramadan and Idul Fitri holiday.
“I can assure that this weekend, people in Bogor can travel to Sukabumi by faster and more trains,” Sumadi said on Sunday, April 3, as reported by Antara.
He added that the train will not only carry passenger, but also cargo to support economic activities in the two West Java municipalities.
The preparedness of Bogor-Sukabumi train to support mudik this year has also been confirmed; however, further information will be announced by railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).
“It’s been confirmed. Fare and schedule [will be announced] by KAI,” Sumadi stated.
The Ministry is also reported to collaborate with local governments of Bogor and Sukabumi to develop the stations and connect them with tourist destinations and centers of economic activity.
In promoting the tourism sector, Sumadi said historical values of the cities can be the selling point.
From Batutulis Station in Bogor to Cicurug Station in Sukabumi, the Minister estimated tourism potential to woo passengers and tourists.
Sumadi and Bogor mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto tried the train on Sunday to check its preparedness and development with a number of officials from the Ministry.
