TheIndonesia.id - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi inspected the construction site of Sanur Port in Denpasar, Bali, whose progress had surpassed 80 percent and is expected to become operational next September. President Joko Widodo is expected to inaugurate the Sanur Port and two other new ports in Bali: Bias Munjul Port in Nusa Ceningan and Sampalan Port in Nusa Penida.

"When the port is completed, passengers need not wade through the water (to reach the boat) because there will be docks. This is an outstanding tourism potential (for Bali). We hope (the port) would support the G20 Summit organisation in Bali," Sumadi noted in his statement as quoted by Antara on Saturday, June 4, 2022.

The minister remarked that Balinese architects had been consulted to develop the port terminal that would adhere to the traditional Balinese architecture style. "We will augment the Balinese architecture style and cultural nuance (at the port terminal). This port will be the hub for travel to other islands, such as Nusa Penida, and would also enhance local tourism," he noted.

He then reiterated the ministry's commitment to ensuring the development of public transportation and infrastructure to benefit the people. "Every development must bear fruits that can be enjoyed (by residents). The older port facilities are rudimentary, so we will develop a modern and perfect port to facilitate residents," Sumadi remarked.

Meanwhile, Bali Governor I Wayan Koster stated that the authority is constantly monitoring development of the port to ensure the progress remains smooth and consistent in line with the timetable. Koster expressed optimism that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) would inaugurate the Sanur Port and two other new ports in Bali: Bias Munjul Port in Nusa Ceningan and Sampalan Port in Nusa Penida.

"The presence of these three ports is expected to serve as new economic centres in Bali and will positively benefit Bali's residents economically," the governor stated.

Apart from monitoring the progress in construction at Sanur Port, the minister also inspected the arrival hall of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to observe the preparation of facilities for the upcoming G20 Summit later this year.

The Transportation Ministry has commenced the development of Sanur Port in December 2020. The development is conceived under a multi-year budget scheme, with a budget of Rp398 billion (US$27.4 million) for the port disbursed by the ministry.
