TheIndonesia.id - Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said Indonesia is committed to exporting more fishery products to China after the two countries signed an agreement on maritime cooperation.

According to Trenggono, in addition to signing the agreement, China and Indonesia reaffirmed their intention to further expand and improve the mechanism for a mutually beneficial cooperation.

“Indonesia and China have signed a memorandum of understanding on security guarantee for the export and import of aquatic products,” the Minister confirmed on Thursday, June 23, as reported by Antara. “I’m optimistic that the realization of this bilateral platform will encourage a hassle-free export of marine products through economic cooperation that supports fish resources sustainability.”

China has become one of the main destinations for the export national fishery products, and based on data from the Ministry, the export value increased from US$477 million in 2017 to US$890 million in 2021. And globally, the volume and value of Indonesia’s fishery exports to international market also grew by 2.5 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively.

This positive trend is supported by five main commodities, which are shrimp (34.83 percent), tuna (15.14), squid (11.27), crab (7.97), and seaweed (6.58).

The Ministry has also expressed the commitment to continuously monitor the quality of products that will be exported to China amid quality issues raised by the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
